John Kuhenbeaker Biography
Inspired by my love for Rock and Roll music!!
Hello, my name is John Kuhenbeaker. I have been drawing and painting for over thirty years. I began as a result of my love for rock and roll music and the artists who created such bold and cutting edge album covers. Artists like Roger Dean, Frank Frazetta and Kelly Freas.
As a senior in high school I decided to make a career of being an artist. Upon graduating I enrolled at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh; a commercial art school. I went halfway through the course and realized that commercial art was something I did not like and pursued illustration.
While in school I was greatly influenced by the styles of Dali, Picasso, Lichtenstein and other graphic illustrators at that time. Since graduating I have held various jobs pursuing my career as an artist. I have also shown my work in Philadelphia, New York, and other locations in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. In that time I have studied the techniques of the old masters and various mixed media techniques.
In that time I began trying to combine traditional approaches along with more modern and graphic approaches resulting in a unique style. In the mid to late nineties I worked briefly with a publisher which did not end well. As a result I took a hiatus from art.
In 2006 I started painting again putting more focus on refining my drawing skills and just having fun with the work. Currently I am working on boards cut out in the shape of guitars and painted on both sides. I am also doing more portraits and furthering my mixed media techniques to help in emoting moods and feelings. I believe now my work is stronger than it has ever been.
